Semester Two
As I continued being photo editor, I strengthened my skills as a leader. One of those skills throughout the course of the year has been my people skills. As photo editor, and as a member of The Campanile in general, I've stepped out of my comfort zone more when it comes to talking with others that I don't know very well. I've also gotten better at not being as permissive all the time. I've learned that leadership, especially for Campy, involves some persistence when it comes to making sure they stay on task over the course of the cycle, rather than having to scramble during production. All in all, I've enjoyed my experience being photo editor and I feel confident that the new photo and art directors will continue to expand on the standard I've set for photography for The Campanile.
Semester One
Through my role as photo editor, I have found my introspective personality helps me as a leader. I use my listening skills to better understand and build individual relationships with the photographers, finding their strengths and weaknesses so I can be a more effective mentor. Next semester, I would like to further this mentorship by giving photography lessons during bootcamp, which didn't happen this year. Through this role, I have also become more assertive in decision making and have strengthened my creative problem-solving skills. Throughout the semester, I better defined the unprecedented role of photo editor through assigning, taking, and helping others with photos. Along with clarifying my own expectations of the role, I have also clarified those of the photographers as well. I look forward to continuing this role next semester.
