Swish
I took "Swish" using a zoom sports lens. The player was losing, but I felt her unrelenting determination. The high shutter speed captured her intensity, the movement of her hair and tennis racket, and the fast-paced game, which she eventually won.
Wolfpack
In April, former U.S. Women's Soccer player Abby Wambach spoke at Palo Alto High School (Paly) with Women's World Cup champion and friend Brandi Chastain on tour for her book Wolfpack. During her talk, Wambach emphasized that everyone should have a wolfpack, or a network of supportive friends, along with discussing activism, equality and empowerment. Not only is this embrace heartwarming, but it also exemplifies Wambach's messages of support and women uplifting women.
From Jordan to Greene
Last summer, I took a class at Jordan Middle School, now known as Greene Middle School, which was renamed due to David Starr Jordan's controversial actions. One day at lunch, I noticed workers repainting one of the signs, and I took a few photos. As a former student there, I felt sentimental because I had always known the school as Jordan, but I also recognized it was also a pivotal moment in our community's history.
Reflections on the Midterm Elections
On the night of the 2018 Midterm Elections, U.S. Government classes at Paly held a party where they watched the news for live updates and marked down progress of the House and individual governors' races. In Palo Alto, most people are extremely left-leaning and given the current political climate everyone understood the importance of the election, cheering loudly whenever it was announced a Democrat was predicted to win. Pictured is teacher Mary Sano along with sophomores Owen Longstreth and Rohin Ghosh, anxiously awaiting the results of a prediction.
No "I" in Team
During this game, most of the photos I took were action shots that showed the players' grit and determination. However, I wanted to showcase this photo because it emphasizes how soccer is a team sport; despite the fact it was a cold and windy evening, the players congratulated each other for every goal, shown in this photo, and stayed positive throughout. Paly ended up winning the game 3-0.
